Patients with AML can now use HealthTree to find clinical trial treatment options specific to their disease.
FREMONT, CA: The HealthTree Foundation, a patient-driven 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports patients at every stage of their medical journey, has launched a clinical trial finder for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). AML patients can use the tool to narrow down their clinical trial search, customizing, simplifying, and expediting the enrolling procedure.
It's the most recent update to HealthTree's AML division. The foundation continues to broaden its scope beyond multiple myeloma to other terminal illnesses to further its mission of improving patient and researcher access to disease-navigating tools aggregating data to speed cures.
"Patients tend to view clinical trials as a last resort," said Jenny Ahlstrom, founder of the HealthTree Foundation. "In reality, getting into clinical trials early can improve a patient's care trajectory, make new treatments available sooner, and potentially unlock new avenues of research toward a cure. There is a tremendous amount of research happening in acute myeloid leukemia right now and we want to make sure that the right information is being made available to patients."
The HealthTree for AML clinical trial tool provides patients with a constantly updated list of AML-specific clinical trials, making the search and enrolling procedure easier. In addition, patients can refine their search using more than 50 advanced filters, such as patient age, trial phase, enrollment status, therapeutic type, and even the genetic target getting examined.
HealthTree has a dedicated team accessible to assist patients with the enrolling process and answer any specific inquiries by phone or email. The platform will soon become more tailored, displaying only clinical trials that each patient can participate in, reducing the search and customizing treatment options even further. Additional HealthTree software solutions for AML patients will be released soon, including a patient data portal, a virtual events platform, and an AML "university."
"This AML specific clinical trial finder gives patients much needed direction and narrows down the monumental task of sifting through what could be hundreds of open trials to find the right options for their cancer's genetic makeup," said Katie Braswell, HealthTree for AML Community Director. "Finding, choosing, and enrolling in a trial can be a complicated, overwhelming process. We want to simplify the process, so patients feel equipped and empowered."
